Honoring the 2014 Steven L. Jackstadt Award Recipient Col. Richard “Dick” Rankin
Colonel (Retired) Richard “Dick” Rankin is recognized as one Hawaii’s finest and most distinguished teachers of Economics and a proponent of economic and financial literacy in the State of Hawaii for more than 20 years.
In May 2014, Dick retired after 20 years of service at Iolani Schools where he coached the school’s Economics Challenge team since 1999. Under Coach Rankin, Iolani has been awarded the State of Hawaii Economics Challenge Championship a record 16 times.
His proudest moments as a Coach, Teacher, Mentor, and Supporter have been coaching the ‘Iolani School’s teams to the National Economics Challenge Competition in New York 10 times.
Coach Rankin’s teams have brought home a National Championship Title five times and in the process beat a number of teams from elite schools around the nation.
2014 Teacher of the Year The Annual Dinner will also feature the 2014 HCEE Teacher of the Year Award The HCEE Teacher of the Year Award is a $1,000 award presented to an outstanding elementary or secondary economic education teacher who has conducted an exemplary economics program and has encouraged the growth and development of an effective economic education curriculum, course, or advocacy.
